Per new state regulations, mattresses and box springs can no longer be disposed of as trash and instead must be recycled. The City of Salem has contracted with Tough Stuff Recycling to provide curbside mattress and box spring recycling. Residents are responsible for $20/unit paid directly to Tough Stuff Recycling. If a resident is unable to pay this fee, they can complete a Hardship Waiver and return it to the City of Salem Engineering Department, 2nd floor 98 Washington Street.
A mattress bag will be required for mattresses if there is inclement weather on your scheduled pick-up date. Mattress bags will be supplied by the City. They can be picked up at the City Hall Annex Engineering Department, 2nd floor 98 Washington Street during open business hours: Monday-Wednesday 8-4, Thursday 8-7, and Friday 8-12.
